Glion London students win Passion 4 Hospitality competition
At Glion, you get to put the skills you learn to the test with exciting projects and competitions. Recently, five MBA students from our Glion London campus applied their knowledge to the Passion 4 Hospitality competition, where they beat six other universities to be crowned the winners.
The competitors – Alex Florea, Elena Kharina, Leo Tran, Kostas Staikos and Bianca Wu – tell us all about it in our latest blog.
Passion 4 Hospitality
“Passion 4 Hospitality is a flagship event where hospitality students can compete against one another. Additionally, it is also a chance for students to meet and network with industry professionals. It is organized by the Institute of Hospitality, and is hosted at the Novotel London West hotel.
“This year’s event took place on Monday 12 March, and saw seven universities (including Glion) take part. Students engage in debates, as well as the Hotel Operation Tactics and Strategy (HOTS) business simulation competition.”
The HOTS competition
“The HOTS competition sees teams use an interactive simulation program to manage a virtual hotel business. The competition begins with online heats, with the winners progressing to the final at Passion4Hospitality 2018.
“This year’s objective involved improving a hotel’s financial performance. We also had to look at guest and staff satisfaction. We were given a midscale, 500-room hotel located in Honolulu, Hawaii. We concentrated on the midscale segment. We followed this strategy to yield rates, to refurbish the rooms and facilities, guests’ comfort and advertising plan.
“The event was very challenging, and decisions had to be made swiftly. Luckily, we made the right choices and our strategy enabled us to win!”
“The HOTS competition allowed us to learn and apply practical skills, which are vital in many real hospitality environments. We are very grateful for the support, great decisions and Glion spirit, all of which were sustained by the five of us throughout the competition.”
Alex, Elena, Leo, Kostas and Bianca all study the MBA Hospitality program at Glion London. Located just over half an hour away from the West End, our London campus boasts state-of-the-art learning facilities in a historical setting.
Congratulations to our students for this superb victory!
