A day in the life of Glion alumna Celine Gathy ’15 Bachelor in Hospitality Management
Meet Celine Gathy, Revenue Management Analyst at Kuoni Group, and Glion alumna who graduated in May 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management. Discover her career path and insights about life in London, UK through this interview by the Glion Alumni Chapter in the UK.
What brought you to the UK? How long have you been here for?
I’ve always really loved London for its multiculturalism and it always felt like home when I was travelling there. The location is very convenient for me to go back home during the weekends if I want to and not too far from other beautiful cities in Europe in case I want to do a weekend away. I had the opportunity to do a three month internship from March to April at Kuoni Group (GTA) as a Revenue Management Analyst. After that, I got a call from my boss to ask me If I wanted to keep working for them. I then came back the end of June to start my very first job as Revenue Management Analyst!
Could you summarise your new role in 3 key points?
- Analysing markets trends from a wholesaler perspective
- Monitoring progress of revenue management and pricing actions
- Identifying opportunities to maximize revenue growth
What is your typical day in the office?
As soon as I arrive, I check my emails to fullfill any requests from other departments or from the team. I also check my calendar to see any appointment or call I would have during the day to see if there is anything to prepare. After that my day consists of analysing data, detecting any problems that may affect the revenue of the company and finding strategies in order to maximize the revenue of the company.
Does you current role match the professional life you imagined having when studying?
Well, I have always been passionate by the hospitality world and the tourism industry. During my studies I imagined myself working in a hotel because I did two internship in the Food and Beverage department and I really enjoyed them. But the truth is, I believe you have to catch any opportunities that will enhance your knowledge about the industry. Being a revenue management analyst at Kuoni is for me an amazing way to learn more about the business as a whole and to put into practice what I learned in revenue management in Glion.
What are the key trends in your industry right now?
I would say technology and sustainability.
How would you describe your perfect day off?
I usually go for a nice brunch in London, there are so many amazing places! Then I go for a walk, visit some new areas of London that I have not seen yet. Then I usually have dinner with friends typically followed by drinks!
What is your favorite place in London & why?
To have a drink after work, I really love Mews of Mayfair for its cosy street, outside tables and relaxed atmosphere. To eat, I am always ready to have a nice Italian dinner at Luna Rossa in Nothing Hill. The pizzas are great and the ambiance is warm and joyful.
The Glion Alumni network – what does it mean to you?
Alumni network is very important to me to keep in touch with people you have known or not but with who you share same interests and passion.
What’s next for you?
I want to develop a career in the hospitality business. Currently I am focused on developing skills and enhancing my knowledge in revenue management and then I will see what’s next for me.
What is the best advice you have ever received / A word for the Glion community?
Very basic but true: you need to do what you like and you will feel grateful to wake up every morning.
