Quite astonishing I must say, but, I have been waiting for this for months and now I am one of Glion’s scholars and part of the hospitality world.
For the first day, I woke up for my induction day, together with hundreds of students. This information session is specially programmed for new students each semester as a welcoming programme, where the students are informed about the Academic Programme, Schedules and Academic Calendar. Also, it included a session where we had the faculty doing a presentation of their courses.
That was a unique experience for me, for the first time in my academic life, I had the sensation that the teachers were doing their best to catch the student’s interest and attention. What a fantastic feeling!
Let me just tell you about some of the exciting course speeches you may or may not be familiar with:
1. Cost, Price & Revenue (Rooms Revenue)
“Selling the right product, at the right time, and to the right client”.
2. Costumer Services
“Reducing Customer’s Complaints and improving the Customer’s Satisfaction”
3. Introduction to Food & Beverages
“Providing taste and sensation and taking care of the Customers”
Well, how much more absorbing could it be?
Anyway, we had a warm welcome from the Dean, Program Leaders, Directors, Tutors, Students Affairs Team, IT team and so on. They had to make sure we understood our rights and obligations for now on, as Glion representatives.
After all the explanations about the courses, campus guides and rules, student’s life and the hospitality world, each of the students had an individual meeting with the program leader and tutors to review the program structure and course choices.
I finished the day with a victorious smile on my face, not knowing what was coming after my first glorious day.
“Speed speed speed” is the terminology used by one of my classmates, when relating about our work attitude. Working, studying and meetings are all I have been doing during these days. The rushing, dynamic atmosphere we see in some busy hotels is quite similar to the one here in Glion.
Projects, presentations, travels, hotel company visits, interviews with hotel managers and staff, research, groups meetings, and debates are some of the many tasks for these first months!
Naturally I was expecting a lot, but not that much. This life is really something…but something is for sure, you don’t leave this school without a massive knowledge of the Industry and the most surprising is the amount of info and knowledge you can have in just one week.
Funny, but I quite feel ready to work in a petite hotel for at least one week!!!
See you soon….
