Glion: The First impression

The time has come and I can imagine many of you are expecting me to tell you about this first, instantaneous sensation. Maybe some of you won’t agree with me, but this very first feeling is most of the time the right one and even if you don’t agree, it will stick in our minds forever.

So let me guide you…

I arrived in Geneva, this city completely unknown to me, with these two big suitcases and having no clue of what to do. Actually, I did not review all the documents I was supposed to before this trip, so I was quite lost about the school arrivals program and what’s more I showed up without any Swiss Francs in my pocket.

I asked myself, “What am I going to do?”

Suddenly everything became clear, I was so relieved and light. Glion had their reception desk at the airport arrivals lounge!!  It was too good to be true, but this time it was true: Glion arrivals team was there to welcome all the new students.

They took all my luggage and after a cup of water, they offered me some Suisse chocolate… one of  Switzerland’s prides. So, any of you have an idea of what this is?? For the ones who are not familiar with this world, this is “Hospitality” and this is what Glion and Switzerland specializes in.

So, I would say that the first impression started very quickly, as soon as I arrived in Switzerland.

After that, my classmates and I were taken on a very nice trip to Glion campus in this beautiful town called Bulle. Once I got in the school, I found this particular environment with so many students, so many suitcases and all of them going to do the check in desk…and once again “Yes” it is a genuine Hotel school.

Everybody was speaking in so many different languages and that is where I started to understand what they mean when the talk about Glion spirit. It is something you see and feel right away on the first day you come here, and there is no way you can miss it.

The team was there for us, for each of the students, to make sure everything was adequate, paying attention to each of our needs or concerns. I felt so relaxed and the integration was immediate. And since then, I knew I left behind one of my challenges and fears.

Glion spirit is something you will not see or feel unless you are in this exact place, it is a state of mind that is tremendously fascinating.

Welcome to Glion …welcome to my first impression.

    Hi Aida,

I arrived Glion in 1997 and my first impression was also very memorable. Something that I will remember forever.
You have chosen the right hotel school. I know I had.
Enjoy your 1st semester in Bulle. Don’t forget to try out the famous raclette in Fribourg.

    Bonne chance!

    All the best,
    Lillian

My experience in the glion campus in montreux was some of the best memories i ever had. the staff were so friendly and everything just seemed like in the brochures i had read through. I was honestly feeling a bit nervous as this was the first time i came to a place where i knew no one. Within no time did i make friends and it wasnt frightening anymore as everyone was feeling the same so we put the thoughts away and began celebrating. The semesters passed and before i knew it we were in bulle campus. The city small yet charming was well known for its cheese. Being one of the best hotel schools in the world one would expect the cafeteria food to be varied and interesting, this is not the case, though numerous suggetions were given it seemed to have little effect. The food is palatable most of the time however there are times when i could honestly say i could never expect eating such low quality food for the price our parents spend for this school. i must bring to notice also that there was a few incidents where dead roaches were found in the boiled spinach. At first the staff did nothing but with students becoming increasingly worried there was an investigation that took place and as they stated ” it was the suppliers fault and shall be investigated thoroughly” In all honesty i’m sure other hotel schools in switzerland which do not cost as much are able to provide more healthier, and appealing array of meals to students. I wish that Glion could realize that its not about quantity but about quality as well. With the massive influx of students in the semesters to come the cafeteria facilities and classroom facilities should be expanded as currently they are too cramped and in somecases too crowded. I believe the education given at Glion is of high standard but the facilities and promises being offered to students are near to none. So for all those out there who want to apply to Glion Pls talk with students who are on campus and see if these changes have taken place. If not they lure u in with the glion campus and ship u off to bulle leaving you gasping in horror.

    Best wishes

    Rajesh
